Singapore’s talented lady Mingtian Fu delivered a gutsy performance when she overwhelmed Hong Kong’s Tsz Ka Chan in Women’s Singles first round of 2012 Australian Open GP Gold on Wednesday, April 4, in Australia.
The World Number 29 Mingtian, who has been looking for a good rhythm for the last one year, had to play to her maximum potential and she managed to chuck out her Hong Kong rival in a thrilling fight.
The Singaporean had to dig into her reserves to overpower her opponent in a hard-fought three games by taking 58 minutes in the court.
In the first set, Mingtian played at her best by taking the bird early from all areas and faced no resistance in setting up an early lead.
She was in complete control and did not spare any chance for her Hong Kong challenger to match the pace of rallies. Until the break, Mingtian was sailing far ahead on the board.
After the break, the Singaporean continued entertaining the local fans with her elevated play. She was fully focused in the game and did not show any sign of dropping down the pace of rallies.
Mingtian remained positive in the entire opening set and ended it with a 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, Tsz Ka showed her brilliance by playing positive and fast badminton this time. She did not commit unforced errors and also matched the speed of her rival. Until the break, the score was quite close.
After the interval, Mingtian committed a few unforced errors by playing wrong shots. She could not dictate her rival this time and lost the set with a margin of 17-21.
In the deciding set, Mingtian played with precision from opening points and remained successful in taking remarkable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Singaporean continued her focused play in the match and did not drop her speed at any stage. She managed to dictate her Hong Kong rival in all areas and bagged the game with a striking score of 21-14.
Mingtian emerged as victorious in this Women’s Singles first round with a 21-12, 17-21 and 21-14 score on the board.
