Australian Open GP Gold: Sung Ji Hyun topples Sayaka Sato to enter into Women’s Singles semi-final
Korea’s ace player Sung Ji Hyun showed her elevated skills and secured her place in Women’s Singles semi-final after toppling Japan’s in-form shuttler Sayaka Sato in quarter-final contest at the 2012 Australian Open GP Gold in Sydney, on Friday, April 6.
Ji Hyun, who is World Number 11 and the third seed in Women’s Singles draw in the event, was far ahead to her Japanese rival in all aspects of the game and easily won the contest.
The third seeded Korean showed her brilliance throughout the contest and emerged as victorious in straight games by working in the court for just 33 minutes.
On the other hand, Sayaka failed to continue her positive and inspiring run in the Australian Open as she bowed down to her higher ranked Korean rival without making an strong impact.
The start of the opening set was interesting when both shuttlers showed impressive performance and remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at 7-7.
At this stage, Ji Hyun geared up her speed and started to play with wonderful aggression. She managed to set up a striking lead of 11-7 until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Sayaka tried to cope up with the pace of her rival but failed to live up to expectations as she lost her control.
On the other hand, Ji Hyun was fully focused as she played with precision and took the opening set in a striking fashion by a 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Ji Hyun played in an incredible manner as she took no time in setting up an early lead. She was everywhere in the court and managed to take a sensational lead of 11-2 until the break.
After the interval, Ji Hyun continued her elevated performance and entertained the crowd with her impressive craft. She did not face any resistance in bagging the second game with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
Ji Hyun stamped her supremacy over Sayaka in an inspiring fashion with a 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
In the semi-final fight, Ji Hyun will take on China’s Li Han who defeated Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand in another quarter-final clash.
