Australian Open GP Gold: Takuma Ueda tames Suppanyu Avihingsanon to reach into quarter-final
Japan’s emerging player Takuma Ueda proved his mettle as he reserved his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final after taming Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon in the round-of-16 clash at Australian Open GP Gold 2012 in Australia, on Thursday, April 5.
The in-form Ueda, who is currently World Number 39, played tremendous game and managed to overpower his spirited Thai opponent in a marvellous fashion.
The Japanese was impressive in the court as he did not spare any chance for his rival to dominate the pace in the entire set and managed to win the contest in straight sets by taking just 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Suppanyu could not live up to expectations and had no answer to the elevated play of his opponent. He lost the match in two games without making a considerable impact.
In the opening points of first set, both shuttlers played remarkable badminton and engaged the crowd in the opening rallies. The score was 4-4 when Ueda played to his maximum potential and controlled the pace of rallies.
The Japanese played with precision and remained successful in taking remarkable lead until the one-minute interval by reaching at 11-8.
After the break, Ueda continued his positive and attacking play in the game and did not let Suppanyu to reduce the deficit.
The Japanese was miles ahead of his Thai rival in the event and ended the opening game with an impressive score of 21-14.
In the second set, Suppanyu remained completely unable to match the speed of Ueda who was in full swing.
Ueda was flawless in the court as he accurately executed his strokes in the right areas and took a remarkable lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, Ueda did not lose his focus and also kept the tempo quite fast. He was playing on a different level in the game and did not spare any chance for his opponent to find his way back into the match.
The in-form Japanese ended the second game in an inspiring manner by a superb 21-11 score on the board.
Ueda won this pre-quarter-final contest in 40 minutes with a remarkable score of 21-14 and 21-11.
