Australian Open Grand Prix Gold: Chen Jin tames Chong Chieh Lok in Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s Chen Jin, the former World Champion, showed his class in Men’s Singles round-of-16 contest when he defeated Malaysia’s Chong Chieh Lok at the Australian Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Thursday, April 5, in Australia.
The World Number 5 Jin, who is top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, did not show any mercy to his lower ranked Malaysian opponent and wrapped up the fight without working that hard.
The top seeded Chinese put up tremendous show of his elite skills and won the contest in straight sets without showing respect to his opponent.
On the other hand, Chong Chieh could not play well in the opening set and lost it with a big margin. However, he fought well in the second game but failed to dominate rallies in the ending phase and bowed down to his higher ranked Chinese rival in 41 minutes.
In the opening set, Chong Chieh put up thrilling show against the top seed by playing to his maximum potential and remained close until the score reached at 8-8.
Jin was relaxed in the opening points but geared up his speed at the end of opening half and managed a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Chinese continued his elevated performance in the game and he did not face any interruption from his rival.
Jin took advantage in this contest by taking the opening set with an impressive 21-12 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Jin was leading the contest with a reasonable margin when Chong Chieh played flawless badminton and managed to take a small lead of 11-10 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the lower ranked Malaysian continued his impressive performance and did not let his Chinese rival to take lead until the score reached at 17-17.
However, at this crucial stage, Jin changed his strategy and worked well at net area. His changed game plane earned him four consecutive points and he bagged the game with a margin of 21-17.
Jin emerged as the winner against Chong Chieh with a remarkable 21-12 and 21-17 score on the board.
