Australian Open Grand Prix Gold: Luo Ying and Luo Yu grab Women’s Doubles title – Badminton news
China’s talented players Luo Ying and Luo Yu delivered a sensational performance and grabbed Women’s Doubles title at the 2012 Australian Open Grand Prix Gold on Sunday, April 8, in Sydney.
In the final battle, Ying and Yu put up tremendous show and overwhelmed Chinese Taipei’s Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien.
The un-seeded Ying and Yu played remarkable badminton for 60 minutes and remained successful in beating Wen Hsing and Yu Chin in a thrilling battle that took three games of attacking badminton from both pairs.
On the other hand, the Taipei ladies started the final contest in a striking fashion and won the set but failed to maintain their killing run and lost the following sets to their spirited Chinese rival.
In the opening game, both sides showed their determination to win the title by playing fast and attacking badminton in the opening points.
They remained equal until 4-4 when Taipei shuttlers geared up their speed and took built an impressive lead by reaching at 11-5.
After the break, Ying and Yu changed their tactics but failed to disturb the flow of their opponents and lost the first set with a completely one-sided margin of 12-21.
In the second game, Wen Hsing and Yu Chin continued their positive play in opening rallies but failed to dominate the pace this time.
The score was 6-6 when Ying and Yu occupied the driving seat and managed an 11-8 lead until the break.
After the break, Ying and Yu maintained their upper hand and did not execute risky strokes at any stage.
They played safe game and remained successful in taking the set with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
In the deciding set, both pairs kept the crowd engaged by playing attacking badminton and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After taking one-minute break, Ying and Yu changed their game-plan and started to play flat strokes to create pressure on their Taipei opponents.
Their changed tactics worked well and they managed to win the final set with a convincing 21-17 score on the board.
Ying and Yu emerged as crown winners as they bagged the final contest with a difference of 12-21, 21-18 and 21-17.
