Australian Open: Li Han trounces Sung Ji Hyun in Women’s Singles semi-final clash – Badminton news
China’s young shuttler Li Han continued her spectacular winning run as she trounced the higher ranked Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in Women’s Singles semi-final of Australian Open GP Gold 2012 at Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, April 7.
Li Han, who started her campaign in the tournament in the qualifying round, proved her impressive skills and hunger for victory in all of her matches and also maintained her performance in the semi-final as well.
The talented Chinese shuttler was impressive in the court and she ended the winning streak of the World Number 11 Ji Hyun, who was the third seed in Australian Open.
Han won her semi-final encounter without losing any set and ousted her rival in straight games by consuming only 39 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Korean could not live up to expectations in the whole contest and crashed out without even putting up strong resistance in the match.
Han started her campaign in the semi-final contest in an impressive fashion as she played with precision and did not let her higher ranked opponent to take lead in the opening half.
The Chinese surprised the crowd with her elevated skills and managed a small lead of 11-9 until the interval in the opening set.
After the break, Ji Hyun tried to play fast badminton but failed to dictate her opponent who was quicker in all areas of the court.
Han continued displaying her elite skills and did not face any problem in ending the opening set with a striking 21-15 score on the board.
In the second set, Ji Hyun failed to live up to expectations as she could not respond well to the attacking shots of her young opponent and remained miles behind until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Han did not drop her speed and maintained her upper hand throughout the ending part. She took the second set in an elevated fashion by a 21-12 score on the board.
The Chinese emerged as victorious over the Korean with an impressive margin of 21-15 and 21-12.
In the final, Han will take on another Korean shuttler Bae Youn Joo who overpowered Japan’s AI Goto in the other semi-final match.
