Australian Open: Luo Ying and Luo Yu hammer Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito in semi-final clash
China’s young shuttlers Luo Ying and Luo Yu showed a wonderful aggression and wrapped up the Women’s Doubles semi-final show by beating Japan’s Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito at Australian Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 on Saturday, April 7, in Sydney.
The un-seeded Ying and Yu, who have been playing flawless badminton in the Australian Open, continued their inspiring run in the semi-final encounter and bagged it without showing mercy to Shizuka and Mami, who were second seeds in the draw.
Ying and Yu worked really well as they did not spare any chance to maintain pressure on their opponents and bagged the contest in two sets while taking the court time for 48 minutes.
Both pairs showed impressive performance in the opening rallies of first set failed to manage lead until the score reached at 8-8.
At this stage, Ying and Yu played positive game at net and took a three-point advantage by reaching at 11-8 until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Ying and Yu continued their better play and did not slow down their speed. They maintained their supremacy in the court by taking the bird early and manipulated the loopholes of their Japanese rivals.
The Chinese duo continued dominating the opening set and wrapped it up with a five-point advantage of 21-16.
In the second set, Ying and Yu had an upper hand over their higher ranked Japanese challengers as they played positively and managed an early lead.
However, Japanese shuttlers changed their tactics and worked well at net. They managed to end the lead of their lower ranked Chinese opponents by reaching at 8-8. However, they failed to dominate the pace anymore and remained at 8-11 until the end of first
half.
After the break, Ying and Yu remained in commanding position as they continued playing flawless badminton in the entire concluding part and won the set with a convincing difference of 21-15.
The Chinese duo bagged this semi-final victory with a remarkable score of 21-16 and 21-15.
In the final battle, Ying and Yu will take on Chinese Taipei’s Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien who outclassed the top seeds Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna in the other semi-final contest.
