Australian Open: Porntip Buranaprasertsuk ousts Xiao Jia Chen in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final
Thailand’s talented player Porntip Buranaprasertsuk had to dig into her arsenal to overpower China’s Xiao Jia Chen in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final encounter at 2012 Australian Open GP Gold at Sydney, Australia, on Thursday, April 5.
The World Number 13 Porntip, who is sixth seed in Australian Open, utilised all of her skills to chuck out her lower ranked Chinese opponent in a thrilling fight.
Porntip consumed 58 minutes in the court to stamp her supremacy over Xiao Jia in an entertaining contest that took three sets of fast and thrilling badminton.
On the other hand, Xiao Jia played well in the whole contest and also took one game from her higher ranked Thai opponent. However, she could not dictate her rival in the concluding phase and lost the match in rubber games.
In the opening set, both ladies played flawless badminton in the opening half and remained close until the mid-game break.
However, Porntip showed her impressive skills in the concluding half and dominate the pace of rallies without facing tough resistance from her Chinese opponent.
The higher ranked Thai lady remained in complete control and managed to win the game with a 21-15 score on the board.
It was a different story in the second set when Xiao Jia showed her brilliance and played incredible badminton. She set up an amazing lead of 11-5 until the end of first part.
After the break, Porntip tried to reduce the deficit by increasing her speed. However, she failed to place her strokes in right areas and eventually lost the set with a huge difference of 14-21.
In the deciding set, Porntip could not take an early lead as her Chinese challenger was also playing at the same level. Both shuttlers reached at 9-9 when Porntip played attacking badminton and took an 11-9 lead until the break.
After the break, Porntip did not let her opponent to level the score at any stage and managed to bag the game with a comfortable margin of 21-15.
Porntip won this thrilling fight in 58 minutes with a 21-15, 14-21 and 21-15 score on the board.
