Chinese Taipei’s Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien surprised everyone by delivering a spectacular performance in Women’s Doubles qualifying round when they outplayed the top seeds Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna of Japan at Australian Open GP Gold on Saturday,
April 7, in Australia.
The un-seeded Wen Hsing and Yu Chin showed impressive play in the semi-final clash and overpowered their higher ranked Japanese opponents who were the top seeds in Women’s Doubles draw of the championship.
The Taipei shuttlers put up gutsy show of top class badminton and wrapped up the contest in straight sets by taking 45 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Miyuki and Satoko could not live up to expectations as they failed to take any set against their lower ranked opponents and lost the contest in two sets with a narrow margin.
In the opening set both pairs showed an impressive performance as they played with aggression and were equal in the opening points.
However, Wen Hsing and Yu Chin played slightly better badminton towards the end of opening half when they set up a reasonable lead of 11-9 on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the top seeded Japanese shuttlers played better game and ended the lead of their rival by reaching at 13-13.
The score remained close on the board from this stage as both sides played positive and controlled badminton.
Both pairs were at 19-19 when Wen Hsing and Yu Chin showed their brilliance by playing smart badminton at net and took the first set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, Wen Hsing and Yu Chin were impressive in the court as they took an early lead without facing any trouble from their higher ranked opponents.
The Japanese shuttlers could not play positive badminton in the opening half of second game and remained struggling at 6-11 until the one minute break.
After the break, Wen Hsing and Yu Chin continued playing flawless badminton. The Japanese players managed to drew near by playing fast badminton but it was too late as the Taipei ladies had already taken an impressive lead.
The Taipei shuttlers remained successful in taking the second game with a close score of 21-19.
Wen Hsing and Yu Chin managed to end the match in 45 minutes with a 21-19 and 21-19 score on the board.
