Australian Open; looking for the next super star in the men’s tennis - Part two
The top ranked Brit tennis ace, Andy Murray, is a nice example with a nice conclusion. The extremely talented Murray, however, also had a lot of problems in his youth as a result of pressure and expectations.
His sporting flair is superlative however then so is of his peers, Nadal, Federer and Novak. As a youth, the Scott struggled due to his fitness and did not like to practice. However, once expected results were not realized and his fellow players on the tour
were surpassing him, the right hander buckled down and developed himself into not only one of the best but fittest contenders on the tour.
Another shinning star is a teenager from the United States of America, Ryan Harrison. The right handed Ryan has a fairly brief career as a junior, turning professional at sixteen, so it is hard to gauge him versus Tomic, though in their one encounter Ryan
triumphed in two sets. While the Australian, Tomic, is thin and tall, Ryan is a fairly well developed kid as far as his body is concerned and that also supported him in his choice to make his debut on the tour at such a young age.
The American has been quite good about keeping his head down working on his weaknesses and remaining calm on the tour. In one of his television interviews, the right hander while commenting on his relationship with his father said, “He has been unbelievable
about being on me to stay humble and stay you know, stay I guess just to the point where I can really focus on taking it one at a time and just taking every day as it comes.”
In the on-going Australian Open qualifying event, Tomic pulled out as a result of some undisclosed illness. However, he is still looking for a wild card entry into the main draw of the year’s opening Grand Slam, starting next month in Melbourne.
Anyways, the American rightly deserves an entry into the main draw of the Australian Open as he is highly able and the most prominent player from Australia since Lyetton Hewitt.
Ryan, on the other hand, just triumphed in the Australian Open qualifier this Sunday, getting the better of Jack Sock in the final in four sets. The final match score was 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4.
“I think Ryan proved in this tournament that he is a great young talent and that he is probably our best competitor right now. Ryan just has that great competitiveness that you can't teach. He has worked very hard, and he has gotten himself into great condition
so I am just really excited to see him get another shot at a Grand Slam in Australia,” said the former top ranked Patrick McEnroe.
So, could Tomic or Ryan be the next Rafa or Roger? No one can say this surely at this stage however one thing is definite that both of them are here to stay and have swiftly marched up the ATP rankings. Both of them have followed entirely different roads
in their professional lives and will be playing in this season’s Australian Open. They have contested in Grand Slams before as well; however the upcoming edition looks more important as they are both in line to become the next big thing in the world of tennis.
In spite of the fact that it is doubtful that they will be facing each other in this year in Melbourne, they should be watched as they are contenders that will hopefully leave an impression in the near future and will give an idea to what the future holds
for men’s tennis.
