Australian Press hails South Africa's fight to save the Adelaide Test – Cricket News Update
Australia’s failure to bag a victory at Adelaide in the 2nd Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 has invited the press around the country to laud the Proteas fight-back.
The South African's were able to deny the Kangaroos a victory, courtesy the herculean effort by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427. The 110-run knock revealed the player's class and nerves as he batted for six consecutive sessions in the second innings to remain unbeaten.
Starting the final day of the Test with 4 key batsmen down and a score of just 77 on the board, a total of 430 looked out of South Africa's reach. With just six wickets standing between glory, Australians were favourites to win the game. However the debutant,
du Plessis, stood rock solid till the end when just two more strikes were required by the Kangaroos to cross the line.
The Aussie media expressed that South Africa would enter the final Test at Perth having a victory under their belt, for not letting the home team grab a win at Adelaide.
"The match had everything but a winner, or maybe not," said Malcolm Knox, a cricket writer with the
Sydney Morning Herald.
"No faffing about from Du Plessis, South Africa's survival will certainly feel like a win as they go into Friday's decider, while Australia's failure to dismiss them in 148 overs will deflate their self-belief beyond quick repair," he further added.
The Australian newspapers tagged http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s inability to cross the winning line as a “heroic failure” while hailing the debutant, du Plessis.
"One of the joys of Test cricket is when a player explores the limits of their capabilities, proves something they always wondered if they could do, finds a reserve hidden even from themselves," wrote the paper's Gideon Haigh.
Sydney's Daily Telegraph also praised du Plessis' "dogged debut" while criticising Australia's top order's performance for being inconsistent.
Australia needs to win the next game at Perth in order to come on top of the Test rankings, but looking at the Proteas fight for retaining it at Adelaide, Perth will witness a tightly contested game.
