  1. You'd be surprised!  There are competitions in the USA and Canada (growing all the time), Ireland, Japan, Europe, Fiji and New Zealand and the regular visits to South Africa where it is a growing sport amongst the black population.

Check out the International page on the official AFL site to find links to where 'THE GAME' is being played!

According to AFL stats, its played in over 30 countries, with participation at 34000.

Not bad for a game 'not so well known'!

  2. Why do you need to be known overseas?  Keep the game here and it will remain unique!

Imagine if the USA tv stations had control of the game?  You would get so much stopping and starting.  The games would be played between the ad breaks like they do with gridiron.

Soccer, or association football, is the most popular game in so many countries that they would never change to another game.

  3. It's restricted to a number of states in Australia only.  It has cult value in some countries, due to pay TV, but it lives in WA, SA, VIC & Tasmania and the NT to a lesser extent.

ACT, NSW & QLD have the two Rugby codes

  4. BEACUSE THE usa FOOTBALL IS WAY DIFFRENT IT IS LIKE RUGBY AFL is well known in SA melb vic nt wa and kinda in the gold coast

  5. Just the same as the reason american football isnt played over here. Each country is too proud to play other national sports. personaly i prefer it to be kept in Australia.

  6. AFL = AUSTRALIAN football leauge
