Australian Sailing Team ready for 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta
Australian Sailing Team is preparing to take part in 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta commencing on the Weymouth and Portland waters. The regatta is a test event to see how weather
conditions will be in the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games. The Aussie team is making their final arrangements to participate in the event.
Hopefully, the sailors will find favourable wind conditions off and on the water while sailing in the 2012 Olympic Games and this test race will surely help them prepare mentally for the mega event.
Each country will have only one entry per class as per rules of the Olympic Games. Australia will begin their sale in Weymouth and Portland International Regatta 2011 on Tuesday, August 2 until August 13.
The Aussie sailing team will participate in Women’s Match Racing where Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty will be representing their country. On the other hand, Jessica Crisp and Tim Gourlay
will hold the Australian flag in the RS:X on Thursday while Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page will go for 470 Men racing fleet along with Tessa Parkinson and Belinda Stowell in 470 Women.
Speaking to the local media, Page said, “We feel like in the last few weeks and months things have come together really well. Our development and education has really clicked and our results have
been really good of late, I see no reason why we can’t be fighting for a medal at the end of the regatta.”
He added, “This regatta is different in many respects, especially with just one entry from each country per class, but it’s a good opportunity for Mathew and I as a team to get the feeling of what
it will be like at the Games.”
