Australian Scott Hend moves up the in the Nordea Masters while Alex Noren maintains his lead
Australian Scott Hend posted a round of two-under, 70 against his opening round of three-under, 69 on the second day, to push himself up the leaderboard at the Nordea Masters, being played at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club, Sweden.
Hend fell in for three consecutive bogeys on the front nine to lose his concentration but came back with a strong eagle at par-five, 9th to finish off his front nine with some decency. He pulled in three birdies and dropped just one shot on his back nine
to stay in contention for the lucrative European Tour title.
Alexander Noren, who played amazingly well on the opening day, has just teed off for his front nine, opening the two holes with back to back birdies. Noren, already a two-time winner on the tour, was surprised with his performance yesterday and will be using
all the confidence to grab the lead through the halfway mark of the event.
“It was great, the first few holes were unbelievable,” Noren had said yesterday after completing his first round. The 29-year-old has recently won the Saab Wales Open in England and is one of the crowd favourites for the event. “It felt so much easier than
it has ever felt, then it got really tough on the front nine.”
Robert Karlsson, the former European number one, finally decided to replace his namesake, the amateur Robert Karlsson, from the summit and posted a round of two-under, 70 against his opening round of three-under, 69 to stay in contention for the second spot
for the moment.
Karlsson pulled in four straight birdies on his closing holes to make up for the four bogeys he fell in for earlier in the day. Amateur Robert Karlsson has yet to tee-off for his second round and will be a force to reckon with, being the overnight leader
for the moment.
Dustin Johnson, the highest ranking player in the event, finally showed some signs of recovery with his second round score of one-under, 71 against a lopsided first round score of one-over. Johnson fell in for a disastrous quadruple bogey on the par-three,
17th where he dropped the hole for a staggering four times. He had pulled in two glorious eagles earlier in his round only to lose them all at the 17th.
