Australian attack is better than England’s - Dennis Lillee
Australia’s former fast bowler Dennis Lillee feels Ponting and his men will regain the Ashes from the visiting England side because his country has a robust bowling attack as compared to the tourists.
The fiery pace bowler, famous for his 'never-say-die' attitude, has got high hopes attached with the pace attack of Australia featuring Mitchell Johnson and Doug Bollinger.
Lillee, who is rated as the outstanding fast bowler of his times, is well aware of what takes it to clinch the Ashes after sharing a lethal partnership with fast bowler Jeff Thomson to thwart England in the 1974-75 Ashes series in Australia.
While the current crop of Australian bowlers might not be as competitive as the Lillee and Thomson duo was some 35 years ago, the fiery pacer still believes the likes of Doug Bollinger and Mitchell Johnson to prove quite problematic for
the England team when The Ashes Series gets underway in the last week of next month.
"In the end, it's got to be (about) your attack – you have got to bowl sides out twice", Lillee said. “If I look at both attacks, I think Australia - even without Warne and McGrath - have a better attack than England”.
Lillee said that the England side has got an edge in the spin bowling as the English spin pair of Graeme Swann and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 a step ahead.
“England's spinning attack - they may use spin twins - may be better than ours because Nathan is still evolving but overall our attack is better and that's where games are won”.
England in its last trip to Australia returned home with a 5-0 thrashing in its baggage, but the pace bowling legend, who claimed 355 scalps in 70 Tests in his 15 year international career (1971 to 1984), is convinced that this summer’s
Ashes series will be a lot more closer than the previous one.
“It's going to be much closer than the other ones. But we should probably win it 2-1 or 3-2”, Lillee said.
One of Lilliee’s expected guns is struggling with an abdominal strain in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 these days and is all set to go back home in a day or two for further assessment whilst his return-to-cricket-date is yet to be decided as the physio of
the Australian cricket team, Kevin Sims, said: “Doug's return-to-cricket date will be finalized following this assessment".
Let’s hope Lilliee’s guns heat Australia’s summer up to the expectations and bring their side out of their current slump.
