Australian captain Ricky Ponting drops in ICC Test batsman rankings
Australian captain Ricky Ponting is no longer among the International Cricket Council’s top 20 Test batsmen, for the first time since 2001. The middle-order batsman slumped down the ICC Test batsmen rankings after managing to score
an aggregate of only nine runs in the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval. Australia went on to lose the match by an innings and 71 runs.
Ponting has dropped 12 places and is now at 25th place on the Test rankings with 694 points. He is followed by his Australian teammate Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 managed to keep his spot on number
15, after scoring a fighting 80 in the second innings in Adelaide. The only Australian batsman to improve on his ranking after the second Test was Michael Hussey. He moved up 10 places to number 14 by scoring 92 and 52 against England in the second Test.
England’s batsmen, meanwhile, are consistently moving up the rankings, with middle-order batsman Jonathan Trott securing sixth place. It is no surprise to see Alastair Cook move up to 13th place with a career-best 739
points. The explosive Kevin Pietersen took 16th place after making his highest Test score of 227.
English bowlers are moving up the ladder as well. Leading the way is off-spinner Graeme Swann, who is second on the Test bowler rankings with 846 points, only 14 points behind South African paceman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn, who heads the table. Swann
is followed by another Englishman, James Anderson, who has replaced Zaheer Khan on the third spot. Next in the list for England is Stuart Broad at number 11. Unfortunately, Broad’s Ashes tour has been put to an abrupt end, after he sustained an abdominal muscle
injury in the second Test match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s highest-ranked bowler playing in the Adelaide test was Doug Bollinger at number nine; after the Test, he has dropped four places to 13. Peter Siddle, who has failed to bag a wicket after his impressive first innings
performance in the first Test, dropped three spots to 17.
The third Ashes Test will be played on a fast Perth pitch, on the 16th of December. The Australian pace attack, which is in disarray at the moment, will be looking to improve on its stats. England’s Swann and Anderson,
on the other hand, will look to consolidate their position on the top.
