Australian cricket team is going the West Indies way, Steve Rixon
Steve Rixon, the former Australian wicketkeeper, feels that the slump in form of the present Australian side is reminiscent to the demise of the once great West Indies team. He thinks the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) will have to take desperate measures
in order to save the Kangaroos from suffering the same fate.
Rixon was quoted as saying, “We need to be doing a lot of things, Australian cricket is not healthy at the moment,"
“If the administrators want to play ostrich and put their heads in the sand, so be it. But I wish they would open their eyes and have a look.” he added.
His comments come after Australia lost both of its warm-up matches against India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. He believes that the team’s dismal performance is a sign of things to come. The World Cup 2011 that starts on the 19th of February will be played
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in conditions very different to what the Australian players are accustomed to playing.
Rixon is of the opinion that the Aussie team is average at best and would struggle to perform on the spinner friendly wickets of the Subcontinent. He criticised the ACB for not including the injured Mike Hussey for the tournament. Hussey is considered an
excellent player of spin; the former Australian keeper feels that his exclusion came as a major surprise.
The Australian cricket team has dominated the world stage for most of the last decade in a much similar fashion as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 team did in the 1970s and 1980s. The former Australian player is truly frustrated by the way the Australia team’s performance
has taken a nose dive. He has had a lot to say about how the state of Australian cricket can be improved but the board has paid no heed to his suggestions.
“I'm seriously sick of making suggestions to improve Australian cricket. I've been around this game long enough to know something about it. I would love to be part of a board where I can make some suggestions to improve the game.”
Steve Rixon is clearly dismayed and disappointed at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s fall from grace. He wants to see a revival before the team heads towards a total disaster.
