Australian cricketers unwilling to rule out strike action – Cricket News Update
Senior Australia cricketers have not ruled out the possibility of a strike should their demands for a new pay agreement not be met by Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) by a June 30 deadline, as confirmed by the players’ union.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Marsh-c81144, chief of the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA), confirmed that his organization had failed to reach a settlement with CA over the proposal for a new five-year deal. He also went on to add that while the stalemate over the pay dispute was
something they were looking to resolve, the possibility of going on strike was a “last resort” which could not be entirely ruled out.
“Our absolute priority and desire is to negotiate a resolution that works for both the parties,” he said, before going to explain that they were not ruling out other courses of action.
“You can't rule anything out. I don't want this to sound like the players are all preparing to go on strike because that's not the case at all,” Marsh said in conversation with Melbourne's
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sen-c89187 Radio.”That type of action is an absolute last resort.”
The ACA had put up a request for around Aus$30 million ($29m), but details regarding the CA’s offer have not yet been made public.
A failure on the part of the CA to negotiate successfully could lead to the players going on strike, an action which could prove detrimental to Australia’s chances in their upcoming One-Day international series against England, scheduled to take place in
June/July this year. In addition to the limited-overs tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 during September this year.
“If Cricket Australia don't want to do that, then we're forced with a decision to make,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 said. “We either accept the position that they put forward or we look at what our other options are.”
The Aussies are currently at the top of the ICC’s rankings for top ODI teams, but their status could come under threat as the last three matches of the ODI tour, which involves one game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 and five against England, take place after the June
30 deadline.
