“Australian former captain Ponting is under pressure after omission of Katich from cricket Australia’s contract list”
Australia’s finest leg-spinner Shane Warne thinks that after the exclusion of Simon Katich from the Australian contract list former captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 is under immense pressure.
Warne says that Ponting has been lucky to stay in the 25 men’s Australian contract list despite being low in performance then the dropped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543. Ponting currently has an average of 25 whereas Katich was at 50 as an opener despite being injured.
The spinner says that if Australian selectors wanted to bring in the youth then certainly Ponting should have been dropped along with Katich. He complains that the board has gone for the easy option because this is the only reason he can think of for dumping
36 year old opener.
Board has taken this decision but at the same time has received hug criticism from public, former players and selectors. Ponting says that he was shocked at the omission of Simon Katich and at the same time http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 questions the former skipper’s presence
in the contract.
Now after cancellation of Simon’s contract, David Hussy and Ricky Ponting are the only 35 year old players to be having the contract.
When the excluded captain got to know about the cancellation of his contract he held a press conference in which he had said that this decision came to him as a shock. Ponting says he admires Katich for not holding back and expressing his views this news
was also very surprising for him.
Now Ponting not in a very good form currently is under pressure as he has to show god performance and prove that the decision was not wrong and besides that he is also under constant scrutiny. If he fails to perform he will be the next in a row to lose his
contract.
Shane Warne further said that if the selectors have kept Ponting in then now his performance must improve but if it does not then the former captain should hold up his hands and announce his retirement from cricket.
Same notions also prevail in the outside world. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trevor-Harley-Bayliss-c94335, the former Sri Lankan coach says that anyone could have been dropped but not Katich, that too in such good form.
Ponting’s career is not certain, and all this criticism is not healthy for him but still he says that what has happened with Simon is wrong a she is as good as any other world class batsmen.
The spinning legend Shane Warne says that to him this decision taken to see how the former captain performs when relieved from the burden of being the captain. Furthermore, this puts more responsibility on Ponting who is already under pressure
