  1. mount erica in gippsland in victoria is virtually a ghost town

  2. Yes. Go and have a look at Ravenswood in far North Queensland. You can get there by car or bus from Townsville and the place is full of goats. It is a former gold mining town.

  3. I know of a few:

Historic Cossack was the first port in the North West of Westwern Australia dating from the 1800s.  It is easily accessible by sealed road from the Northwest Coastal Highway near Roebourne.    The town contains several historic buildings that are slowly being restored.   Of the buildings that remain intact, you can visit the old courthouse, galbraith stores and the old police barracks.    A caretake remains onsight and the town is a popular day trip for visitors to the area, especially to the nearby Settlers beach for safe swimming.

Broadarrow is another that comes to mind.   This town is located north of Kalgoorlie in the Western Australian goldfields.   The Broadarrow pub is still open for business (the only building still used there), while the rest is in ruins.  The town is accessible by any regular car, I think the road is either sealed for dirt but in good condition.

Greenough just outside of Geraldton on the West Australian coast (4  hours drive north of Perth) has many historic ruins amongst the fields and crops there.    Some of these buildings date back to the earliest days of settlement and make for very picturesque photographs.

Yellowdine on the Great Eastern Highway on the way from Perth to Kalgoorlie is another ghost town.   The highway runs straight through the town.   The only building still in operation is the fuel stop there where coaches often stop to refuel and grab a bite to eat.  The rest of the town is in ruins but is a good example of early goldfind towns.   Most of the houses are gone now but the foundations are still there, and so are the cellars.

  4. Stieglitz in the Brisbane ranges in Victoria. Not many buildings are left but there are many old goldmines in the surrounding area.

  5. Yeah, at my place, I can put on a fabulous show for you.

  6. Kanowana Bell east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia has bitumen going right up to the centre of town. http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&ll=-3...

There are no buildings left, but there are many old mine shafts around the area.

  7. Read the 1998 book below:

State by state, suburb by suburb guide.

Unfortunately, most of the ghostly action happened in the brutal times of convict arrivals, while the outback seems to have way too much of the "Min Min" lights.

One very scary account was recorded on ABC-TV in the 1970s? somewhere in rural NSW when smoke from one chimney went up in the air and then down another chimney where a retarded boy had had been chained up like a wild animal. Sorry can't remember the estate name.
