Australian golfers must improve massively says Adam Scott
Australian golfers have had their worst season in 10 years on the PGA Tour. They managed to win only one tournament. It was Marc Leishman who won the Travellers Championship, in Connecticut.
Even Adam Scott, the world number five, could not win any tournament on the PGA Tour. He had a few close finishes on the Tour, coming inside the top-three on a few occasions.
The PGA Tour is considered to the toughest tour of the world and to win here needs something special. Adam knows that Aussie golfers need some serious work on their game in order to be successful on this tour.
'It's getting harder and harder to compete and win on the PGA Tour,' said the world No.5, Scott.
There are many brilliant Aussie golfers playing on the tour but they do not have the required finishing skills. We saw that with Scott as well at the Open Championship, when he faltered right at the end after playing magnificent golf for three and a half
days.
“We have a ton of talented guys but more so than ever talent doesn't get the job done out here. Everyone out here is working extremely hard, everyone is very motivated, and I think it's a wake-up call to all of our guys,” he said.
In the past ten years, Australian golfers, on the average, have won around 3 tournaments a year. Last time when they won only once on the tour was back in 2002. Since then, they have won 33 tournaments in the last ten years.
The PGA Tour is almost over now. Only four event finales are left, which will decide the tour cards for the low ranked players.
“I'd agree it hasn't been the best year for us as a group,” said Scott, who had five top 10s on the US tour from 16 starts. “I pushed myself really hard and am giving myself an average mark this year”.
A total of 28 Australians have played at least one tournament this year and all they could account for was just one victory and five top 10 finishes.
