Australian guy talking to an american girl??

ok so my sister has signed up for this dating site back in january and this guy found her on the site and ever since then they have been emailing each other back and forth (keeping in touch)....i can tell thAT my sister is so into him and reallly likes him but there is one problem he lives in australia...me and my sister live in ny...i know that she has spoken to him on the phone a few times and he told her that he plans on coming to ny in the summer to see her...i find this to be so strange as to why someone from australia would want to talk to/meet my sister from ny?? i mean cant he find someone closer?? my sister is my best friend and im just looking out for her...im worried that hes coming to see her to get the papers or it could be that he really likes her and wants to meet her....what do you guys think??

As long as they both understand the implications of a long-distance relationship, let it be. They know what they're doing, and these kinds of things work out all the time. You should be asking your sister these questions! Or, hey, ask her for his e-mail, and ask him!

It's a c**p-shoot.  As you suspect, he could be coming over with the idea of marrying your sister so he can get a green card, but then again he may just be coming over for a vacation and would like to meet your sister.  E-mailing over a long distance doesn't mean this guy can't find a girlfriend in his area.  Heck, he may HAVE a girlfriend in his area.  You never know...

Australians aren't trying to get greencards. We have much more opportunity here.

Perhaps he is just leading her on, and has no intention to actually visit. Chances are he started talking to her, likes her personality so wants to meet her for the fun of it.

It isn't exactly normal to travel across the world like that so if you're worried make sure you go with your sister if she meets him and tell her not to get her hopes up.

We may be south of the border but Australians aren't falling over themselves in the rush to become American citizens. Come over and visit sometime.

If this guy is clever enough he won't meet your sister and marry her just for to get a green card. Work situations in Australia are better than is the US. So what for should he get the green card then?

He only might be curious to meet her - and that's it. Maybe a little kiss here and there and then he will go back home.
