Australian international centre Pat McCabe out of action for next six months – Rugby News
Australian international Rugby Union team’s centre, Pat McCabe, is to be sidelined from the action for the next six months. McCabe made the announcement, while talking to the Sydney Morning
Herald on Wednesday, October 26.
McCabe was part of the Australian squad which participated in the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) tournament. He sustained a shoulder injury during Wallabies Pool C encounter against the United
States of America. It was expected that he will not recover from the injury but he returned to action in their knockout stage encounter against South Africa and New Zealand.
He sustained a third blow to his shoulder during the second semi-final of the 2011 RWC at Eden Park, Auckland. The blow has badly affected his shoulder, which now requires surgery to redress
the problem. The operation and its subsequent rehabilitation will require approximately six months time.
McCabe plays for Australian Super Rugby franchise, ACT Brumbies. The injuries will sideline him from the Brumbies pre season preparations and the first few rounds of the 2012 Super Rugby competition.
He is expected to return to full fitness by March 2012. Besides this, he will also miss Wallabies tour of the United Kingdom, later this year.
Commenting on his hiatus from the game, McCabe said, “‘it’s obviously pretty frustrating but it's something I have to get right. I have to look at it as an opportunity to improve my skills
and physical attributes.”
The 23-year-old McCabe is utility backs player and has played at fullback, winger and outside centre position. He started playing his rugby with the Amateur sides before making his professional
Rugby Union debut for Waratahs in 2010. He so far has represented Waratahs in 27 games and has scored 20 points for them.
Sydney born McCabe made his international debut for Australia in 2010. He so far has played five international games for Wallabies.
McCabe expressed his desire to return to action fully charged. He said, “'This year has been long, and it has taken its toll physically and mentally so, hopefully, I'll come back fully recharged
and ready to go for the Brumbies.”
