    Firearm permits for juniors (12-18 years of age)

    Juniors between 12 and 18 years of age may apply for a minors firearms permit for:

    training

    target shooting

    competition

    other shooting purposes.

    A minors firearms permit allows persons under the age of 18 to participate in firearms training and competitions under strict supervision.

    There are two types of firearm permits for minors:

    A minors Firearm Training Permit authorises the person to whom the permit is issued to possess and use a firearm under the personal supervision of the holder of a category A, B or C licence, or a person authorised by the Firearms Registrar.

    A minors Target Pistol Training Permit authorises the person to possess and use a target pistol under the supervision of the holder of a category H firearms licence.

    To apply for a junior permit, you must:

    be between 12 and 18 years of age;

    have completed a firearms safety training course conducted by an approved club and approved by the Registrar; and

    be a member of an approved club.

    The application must include the written agreement of the applicant’s parent or guardian.

    Minors firearms permits expire on the permit holder’s eighteenth birthday.

  2. no you don't have to be a member if your dad or a family member has a gun licence but its good to join a club anyway it supports all shooter
