Australian ladies put up a brilliant show in Prague
Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters was held in Prague, this Sunday. Although the cup went to Melissa Reid from England, Australian players did very well in the tournament.
Australia was represented by nine players in the event. Only three managed to make into the top ten. Rachel Bailey stood third, Stacey Keating ended up in the 5th spot and Nikki Garrett finished 7th.
This was a great performance by the players who competed against the top golfers, such as Melissa Reid from England and Diana Luna from Italy.
Rachel Bailey outshone all her countrywomen by landing a plum third share in the tournament. She started out at number 24. Given this, her finishing third is impressive to say the least.
Her overall score was 209. She was the top scorer of the third round with 66. She scored seventeen birdies, a double bogey and eight bogies in all. Bailey finished the first round at 70.
She played a slightly bad game in round 2. Her score of 73 included 4 birdies, 3 bogeys and a double bogey.
In the third round, she performed exceptionally well. Her score of 66 included eight birdies and two bogeys.
Stacey Keating fared a tad worse than Bailey. She started out as number 4 and slid down to number 5. Her score was 210. She started the tournament on a good note.
In the first round, she scored 69 (five birdies and two bogeys). The second round saw a similar show, with a consistent score of 69 (four birdies and one bogey). She slid down in the third round with a score of 72 (two birdies and two bogeys).
Nikki Garrett is the third of the trio that achieved honours for Australia. Ranking wise, she did well, starting out at number 10 and finishing at number 7. She scored 211.
Her game appeared to be off during the entire tournament. In round one, she scored 69. This included six birdies and three bogeys.
Round two’s score was 71, with three birdies and two bogeys. Round three was a similar show, (71) with five birdies and four bogeys.
Australian players were expected to perform well in the tournament and both, the fans and the commentators were not disappointed.
All the ladies performed well, with the trio being the highlight of the tournament. Bailey was the highlight of the Aussie participants. She gave a tough time to the players in third round.
At one time, she was tied for the first place with Melissa Reid and Stefania Croce. She lacks the experience that these players have on the pro circuit.
Rachel Bailey received 15,500 pounds for her share of the third position. She also scored her best (66) in an LET event.
Other notable Australian female golfers included Karen Lunn, Bree Arthur, Rebecca Artis and Stephanie Na.
