Australian legendary spinner, Shane Warne, pays tribute to his mentor “Terry Jenner”
Sharing his views and memories, former Australian leg-spinner, Shane Warne, paid tribute to this mentor, Terry Jenner, who died on Wednesday, May 25th.
Warne recalled the 1992 period and told how Jenner helped him become the world’s best leg-spinner.
He said that TJ became his Dr Phill regarding all matters and Warne used to take advice from him whenever he needed a plan to dominate the opposition's batsmen.
Warne added that Jenner was not only a master of spin-bowling but had a superb knowledge of the game.
"TJ, like his fellow players of that era are very straight and also very blunt - the best way to be in all aspects of life - no bull s**t or fluffy rubbish", Warne wrote.
While recalling the memories of his Test debut, bowling against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Adelaide Oval’s No. 2 under the observation of Jenner, Warne added that he just picked one wicket for 150 but Jenner still backed him for his struggle.
After making his Test debut, Warne was selected for the next tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, for which he again sought Jenner’s guidance.
Warne mentioned how Jenner transformed him from a raw player to a real sportsman. Jenner pushed him to be serious for the Sri Lankan tour, advising Warne to quit excessive drinking every night and also compelled him to loose his
weight to become fully fit for the challenges ahead.
Jenner’s efforts worked out and Warne earned a great name in the cricketing world in a short time period.
Warne ended his Test career with 708 wickets in 273 innings at an average of 25.41.
Bowling in 191 ODIs, the leg-spinner has picked 293 wickets at an average of 25.73, including his best bowling figures, 5/33.
After retiring from international cricket, Warne joined IPL in its inaugural season in 2008 and has been serving as a coach as well as captain for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals.
The ongoing IPL season was the last of his career, where his side ended the tournament at the sixth spot with six wins from 14 matches.
