I need to learn all the town names and areas of Australia to make my job easier..so i can type in the locations quicker..without been yelled at that i dont know how to spell all the towns..some are hard..Im have only lived in victoria.

For example people will say. " the central coast" when i ask what location they want....not a state or anything..i know now thats QLD but it doesnt have that on the map?.When i search central coast it doesnt show uo in my locations list..

Any information of the geography of Australia esp info about coasts.etc would help enormously!.

  1. hmm...try these...still not clear exactly what your looking for..but...let me know if these work for you:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_o...

    http://www.citypopulation.de/Australia-U...

click on territory & map will pop up

    enjoy!

  2. The central coast is the area of NSW just north of Sydney up to Newcastle - the biggest town is Gosford, Wyong is another main centre.

The gold coast is south of Brisbane in QLD with the major towns being Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta.

The sunshine coast is north of Brisbane and includes the towns of Noosa, Maroochydore and Caloundra.

That is all the main areas I can think of that you might need to know.

  3. Google Maps is your best bet  (http://maps.google.com.au).

With Google Maps you can just put the post code in and it will instantly take you there.  Regional names like Central Coast and Northern Rivers also work.   You can even spell it wrong and it will give you alternatives to choose from.

For specifics about regions and towns - use Wikipedia.com.  They will give you a good allround over view about different Australian areas and what goes on there.

The main coastal regions that you would likely hear about are:

Central Coast - region between Sydney and Newcastle, centred around the towns of Gosford and Wyong.

Gold Coast- a region (and city) Between Brisbane and the Queensland border, spilling over into New South Wales.

Sunshine Coast- a region north of Brisbane centred around the towns of Maroochydore and Caboolture.

Great Ocean Road- Coastal region covering a large portion of coastal Victoria extending from about Geelong to Portland to the West.

  4. The list of Postcodes will help with spelling http://www1.auspost.com.au/postcodes/

The problem with searching for a location like 'Central Coast' (which BTW is in NSW AFAIK) is that many location names are unofficial,  therefore undefined and may exist in several states. The maps at: http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/... show the official regions of each state, but you will need to dig deeper on the abs (Australian Bureau of Statistics) site for town names.

  5. Central coast is actually in NSW including Gosford and surrounding areas.

Try searching for regions instead of cities or towns. Some other regions in NSW are:

    - Hunter Valley (Newcastle and surrounding)

    - Illawarra (Wollongong and surronding)

    - Shoalhaven (Nowra and surrounding)

    - Sapphire Coast (Bega, Merrimbula, etc)
