Australian pace attack capable of becoming best in the world, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 – Cricket News Update
Mickey Arthur, the newly appointed Australian coach, believes that his team’s pace attack is well capable of becoming the best in the business.
He was also satisfied with Aussie batsmen’s performance in the opening Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Arthur expressed enormous delight over the fine show of the Australian pace attack including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 in the first Test of the four-match series. The trio played a pivotal role in the team’s thrilling 122-run win to
power http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to a 1-0 lead in the competition.
Hilfenhaus picked up seven wickets in the contest whereas Siddle and Pattinson scalped six each. The Aussie selectors have further boosted the strength of the bowling attack by bringing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 in the 12-man squad for the next Test at Sydney, starting
from January 3, 2012.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 out of action due to their respective injury issues, Arthur feels that the Aussie pace attack has a good depth with a bunch of talented quicks in the national setup.
Another reason to smile for the coach is the ongoing competition among fast bowlers for the position in the final playing XI.
“I thought we had 15 players that can play international cricket at any given time. Hopefully by the end of the summer we might have 22 guys that can do that because we need to build up our strength in depth, which we are doing now. But I do think this pace
attack has the potential to become the best in the world,” said Arthur ahead of the second Test.
The SCG pitch is expected to be helpful for the pacemen, and therefore cricket gurus are advising the team management to go with four specialist pacers. However, Arthur stated that it will not be a good idea since a spinner is essential to add variety in
the bowling department.
“I'm pretty loath to go into any Test match without a spinner. Obviously conditions will determine that, but the SCG has normally got a history of favouring spin down the line,” added the former South African cricketer who took over the coaching charge after
Tim Nielsen’s termination.
