Hey, I'd like to know what do you think about your country. I asked some Australian people what they thought about Australia, and I got similar answers from all them. I won't tell you what they told me, I will... when I have chosen the best answer ;-)

  1. About to go down gurgler, no one can afford housing, there is no public housing left, and hospitals are at breaking point. Minoritys politically run the country as well, and it a police state were the gestapo will **** u up if you f**t.

  2. EMjAY gave a very good answer.

The climate varies from Tropical in the extreme north of the country to cool temperate in Tasmania with Monsoonal rain and cyclones in the north to Snow in winter in the mountains of southern NSW and Victoria and in Tasmania.

The beaches are great and we love swimming and sun-baking, our interior vast and beautiful and extremely  varied. Our native wildlife is unique and great.

Our culture is a strong blend of British and European with a wide variance of foods. We are very 'easy-going' -- not conservative like the British and not emotional like the Italians/Americans (these are generalisations).

Our health system is excellent, and compared with the US, very accessible and cheap to everyone although we grumble about the cost.

Our education system is also excellent, whether is is the State government-run schools or the Private (Catholic, Church of England etc) schools.  We have some of the best universities in the World (Sydney, Melbourne, Monash, ANU) that are the envy of many countries. (The above four are in the top 50).

Because of the education system, and an excellent (relatively open) media, Australians are knowledgeable about the world, more so than Americans and many people are able to speak 2 or more languages.I have a number of close friends who speak 3-5 languages while I only speak two and know a few words in some three other languages.

Our crime rate is low compared with most countries, and certainly lower than the US or Britain. We have probably the safest driving record of any country with few road deaths per year. (In Victoria in 1970 we had 1037 deaths in one year, we had only 330 in 2007, a bad year). In fact Victoria is world renowned for its driver safety initiatives that have been adopted in other countries.

Commercial air travel is safe with the Australian airlines having the best safety record of any country, although this may change in the future with the exporting of maintenance to places outside of Australia.

Terrorism in Australia is extremely rare. The only cases I can think of are Ustashi (Catholic Croatian Fascists) bombing of several Serbian Churches, the Yugoslav Consulate in Melbourne in 1970 and several Serbian run travel agencies.

The "Hilton Hotel Bombing" in  February1978 was supposed to have been carried out by a religious group.

Our political system, the Westminster Parliamentary System, the same as practised in Britain, New Zealand and Canada is very strong and democratic. We have "compulsory voting".

Our laws are generally good, although the recent "terrorism Laws" that were passed by the previous government have restricted our freedoms to some degree, and many people consider them undemocratic. Hopefully these will be repealed by the new Federal government that was elected in late November last year.

As you can see, I love Australia, but I am willing to see the bad as well as the good and compare them in an unbiased manner (as unbiased as I can be).

I hope this has been of assistance.

  3. Love it or leave it, I reckon!

  4. People are gonna hate me for this, but here goes...

I am an Aussie living and Working in a major Holiday Destination.

Most Australians are very self Pre-occupied and Proud of themselves to the point of it being unhealthy.

Australians think they are the best at everything, but CONSTANTLY need reassurance of this!

They are quick to call anyone who disagrees with them a "whinger" or whiner.

They want it all and they want it NOW.

They have no patience especially for their fellow people, or the sacrifices of their country, Even tho they claim they do...

EXAMPLE: Last ANZAC day we held 2 minutes silence in the shopping mall to remember the troops. Everyone stopped work and no purchases were to be made. A mass of Customers Heckled the Cashiers and Working Staff for holding the silence and many customers stormed off.

In Politics Aussie dont seem to think or care!

In regards to Global issues they pretend its not happening.

They only care if something affects them Directly. Which then they are quite happy to take it out on a member of Staff whoms fault it isnt!

They are delusional to the wonderful country we really have and how great we really have got it and are more interested in getting their own way and not having to worry or deal with any problems. Cos these problems are always someone elses faults, and need to be fixed by someone else!

Gone are the days of being Easy going and Lending a Hand!

  5. i am not a Australian but my buds sis went there and it was SO awesome i was told by her about 13 times

  6. It has it faults but what country dosen't

  7. Our people are like our landscape, best in the world.

Our government is like our animals, most poisonous in the world.

  8. ok .....

this is my answer and I'll ask to be forgiven for my long ramble in advance.....

I feel LUCKY to have been born in Australia...

starting with the nations natural diversity ... the animals , the flora .. the geography... the climate ( although this bloody drought is beginning to cease to be a joke)

the next thing is .. where we are today .. from where we started .. we have come from being a nation that had an indigeous population... who had survived at least 40,000 years, to being a penal colony ... to what we are today ...

we're by no means perfect .. I'm not jingoistic enough to try and tell you we are.. we still have issues between our indigenous and non-indigenous peoples ( i am confident we will work them out in time) .. and we have the occassional flair up between different nationalities .. but that's nothing new .. and we have worked things out in the past .. from the Anglo/Irish conflicts, to the European Aussies/chinese..

all of those who have come here from other lands have made us who we are today... from the indigenous people, the europeans the asians the middle eastern the mediteranean ETC ..

we have picked up bits and pieces of all ...food music humour

we can poke muck at ourselves.. we have a healthy irreverence to much of what others revere..we can be fierce when we are needed to be ( and sometimes when we're not needed to be) ... we TRY to be fair ..

we MOSTLY know that we are LUCKY to be australian ... which is better than being PROUD .. cos it is by LUCK we are what we are..... ( N.B we can still feel proud a bit .. BUT feeling Lucky is a better emotion .. least to me )

... now I must recognise here that the indigenous people of australia did suffer indignities after white settlement .. and while I am not personally responsible I am sorry that suffering occured..I think many indigenous people around the globe also suffered... western colonisation has a lot to answer for

I Am Australian ( a song that says it all )

    I came from the dream-time,

    From the dusty red-soil plains.

    I am the ancient heart,

    The keeper of the flame.

I stood upon the rocky shores,

I watched the tall ships come,

For forty thousand years I've been

    The first Australian.

I came upon the prison ship,

    Bowed down by iron chains,

I fought the land, endured the lash,

    And waited for the rains.

    I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife

On a dry and barren run,

A convict, then a free man,

    I became Australian.

I'm the daughter of a digger

    Who sought the mother lode.

    The girl became a woman

On the long and dusty road.

I'm a child of the Depression,

I saw the good times come,

    I'm a bushie, I'm a battler,

    I am Australian.

We are one, but we are many,

And from all the lands on earth we come.

We'll share a dream and sing with one voice,

"I am, you are, we are Australian"

    I'm a teller of stories,

    I'm a singer of songs,

    I am Albert Namatjira

And I paint the ghostly gums.

    I'm Clancy on his horse,

I'm Ned Kelly on the run,

I'm the one who waltzed Matilda,

    I am Australian.

I'm the hot wind from the desert,

I'm the black soil of the plains,

I'm the mountains and the valleys,

I'm the drought and flooding rains.

I am the rock, I am the sky,

    The rivers when they run,

The spirit of this great land,

    I am Australian.

We are one, but we are many,

And from all the lands on earth we come.

We'll share a dream and sing with one voice,

"I am, you are, we are Australian."

"I am, you are, we are Australian

  9. I love my country to pieces! I

I love our laid back and friedly people

    I love Afl footballl

I love the BBQ's on the beach

I love our strong sense of national pride

    I love our hot weather

    I love our individuality

I love our local tv chows and movies

I love our kangaroos and emus

Pretty much theres not much about Australia that i dont love about  my country and its people.

But above all i love the fact we can unite together in times of need.
