Australian players express concerns for UAE series against Pakistan - Cricket News Update
Extreme heat in UAE has become a reason for “significant concerns” if the Australian players are asked to play a series against Pakistan. UAE is serving as Pakistan team’s home since the tragedy of a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore
in 2009.
Last week, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, Pakistan Cricket Board’s director for international operations, had informed that the series is likely to include 3 One Day Internationals (ODI) and 3 T20Is. While Pakistan would favour the venue in the Emirates state, the location
of the series and its format is still to receive a confirmation.
UAE has never hosted an international event during the summer months from June to September. With the series scheduled for August, one of the hottest months in UAE, is a likely impediment is concerning the Australian players.
"How wise is it to be going to a region that you know is going to get up to 45-plus at that time of year?" The ACA chief executive, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Marsh-c81144, told ESPNcricinfo. "That's extreme heat. It's also very humid. It's of significant concern for us at the moment.
The health and safety of the players needs to be at the forefront of any decision that is made."
Pakistan has to play its series on neutral venues and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 had
other options on the cards too with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033, but the latter seemed like a real possibility.
Initially, keeping in view the hot and humid conditions, Pakistan had proposed a series of seven T20s which was cut short to five matches after International Cricket Council’s (ICC) refusal but the Cricket’s governing body apparently refused the second suggestion
as well. Australian Cricketers' Association’s (ACA) chief executive, Paul Marsh seems to have endorsed the idea.
"The common-sense approach would be that six Twenty20s is going to be better than three of each because of the weather conditions," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 said. "We would rather see them play six Twenty20s if they have to play in the UAE because they could start later and
it takes less time. But we have to wait and see what the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 says,” ACA chief executive added.
