My partner is applying for an australian partner visa. He was on a working holiday and travelled all around for the 12 months. does he need to get a police check from australia? he had a drink driving charge while in australia over 4 years ago (while on the working holiday visa) and were worried this will effect things.

Please help!

  1. Hello. Yes they do a check but unless you are on bail they will not knock you back. You have to do something really serious to get a knock back. The drink driving willl not hurt that at all. Hope it all works out.

  2. Yes he will need to get a police check but seeing it was a minor charge it should not affect his application. I would avise that he doesn't try to hide anything because they do find out.

    Check the AFP website:

    http://www.afp.gov.au/home.html

    and the Immigration dept website:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/

  3. He needs to make sure that when he fills out that little green form on the plane that he tells them he had a conviction. If he doesn't do so they will pop him on a plane back home. They will check.

  4. I agree with proudaus... Cover all your bases, and tell him to be honest with all his answers. They are on the ball over here...
