Australian selectors gamble on new players for team’s revival during the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka: Cricket News Update
Based on recent reports, the Australian selectors made it official after announcing the inclusion of four uncapped players on the side’s Test squad for the upcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The decision from the officials came in an attempt to bring in
revival for the team, following their recent down sliding performance especially since the recent Ashes series coupled with some major retirements including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Donald-McGrath-c60183 and Mathew Hayden.
The rearrangements came for the team’s upcoming tour to Sri Lanka with the Test series scheduled to take off on August 31 at Galle International Stadium. The event will feature 3 Test fixtures, spanning till September 20th.
Prior to the Tests, Australia will also take on the hosts in 2 Twenty20 matches on August 6 and 8, followed by 5 One Day International (ODI) fixtures from August 10 to 22.
As for the Test squad’s overhaul, the four new entries include three untested bowlers, namely fast-medium pacers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822.
Other additions to the squad include top order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543.
Katich’s axing from the team came with much controversy and out loud criticism for Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) despite the player’s impressive performance for his side. Katich was left out of the team after not having his national contract renewed.
However, amongst the uncapped entries, Lyon’s selection on the squad came with much surprise to the officials due to the spinner’s limited cricketing profile, restricted to minor four first-class matches. In response, Australia’s chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498
came out citing that the selection was made with an intention to revive the team through young talent.
Hilditch went on stating that “it's not something we are just picking young players because that is the way we want to go, but we need some experienced players, which we think we have got, and we also need to find a couple of new champions in the next couple
of years”.
As for Pattinson and Copeland, the selection came with much surprise as well as an honour for the Australian youngsters but according Hilditch, both the players have proven their mights in recent performances, deserving the spot on the squad.
