Australian skipper Darren Lockyer content as he bows out of rugby league
While talking to the media reporters on Wednesday, November 16, about bowing out of his over 16 year long rugby league journey, Australian skipper, Darren Lockyer, is content with his rewarding stint studded with many feats.
The iconic player will be playing his last game at Elland Road, Leeds, where Roos will lock horns with England, which may end on a much higher note for his side if they walk out victorious with the Gillette Four Nations 2011 title.
The 34-year-old rugby league icon spoke about his rugby career and said, "Everything has fallen into place. I went out on a good note in Origin, I had my 350th game in the NRL which was a win in Townsville and my last home game against Manly was a win. You
can't keep thinking things are going to go your way. There's another challenge in front of us but I guess personally I just want to know when I'm on a plane going back to Australia that I don't have any regrets that I could have done any more."
The player’s successful run at rugby league has been a fruitful career choice as through this game,he has explored avenues in his professional life, which sets him apart from the rest. His professional profile is studded with record breaking performances,
which saw him receive recognition in 2010, for scoring the most number of tries. A year prior to that was also no different as the player smashed records with his performances.
Earlier this year, the Australian skipper played his last game with Queensland Broncos, at the Suncorp Stadium which is his last Test appearance on home-soil.
Recalling his first game in 1997, the player expressed his out-of-this-world feeling, when he played alongside his derby idols; Laurie Daley, Brad Clyde, Brett Mullins and Kenny Nagas. He further said, ”To be over here playing against England at Elland Road
in the decider of an Ashes Series was pretty special."
The same ground will feature him in his 471st appearance, which will be his last too.
