  1. www.defencejobs.gov.au

Look up the Commando career path.  You can attempt to enlist from the street to this unit, however if you bum out you are stuck in either rifleman or a SF support role for at least 12 months before getting another shot.

There is one intake per year and it is highly competative, you need to be active, intelligent and do well in your interviews and medical, none of this will gurantee entry.

So just book in an information session, tell them your intent and stick to your guns, learn as much as you can about the job (there is standard info that you must know from the defencejobs website), don't let people talk you out of trying, don't be seen to waiver in your ambition and above all else have a d**n good answer ready for when they ask you why you want the job.

WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO BE SO NEGATIVE?  GIVE THE GUY A BREAK, IF HE WANT'S TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY THEN WE SHOULD APPLAUD HIM NOT RIDICULE HIM AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH AIMING TO BE THE BEST, WOULD YOU PREFER THAT THE ARMY WAS FULL OF UNDER ACHIEVERS?  WHY DON'T YOU GIVE PEOPLE A BREAK AND GO PICK ON SOMEONE WITH THEIR SIGHTS SET ON THE OLYMPICS OR SOMETHING.

  2. I hope that they don't require someone to be literate and know how to type.

  3. There are a few special forces units:

    - 1st Commando Regiment

The Army Reserve has two commando companies - one in Melbourne, one in Sydney. They recruit directly from civilian life, but prefer recruiting soldiers from other units. You need to be at least 19 to apply.

    - 4th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment

The Australian Regular Army has one commando battalion based in Sydney. They also accept recruits from civilian life, though most successful applicants apply from other units. You need to be at least 19 to apply.

    - RAN Clearance Divers

Not formally a part of the Australian Special Forces Command, though the requirements to get in are extremely tough. They do special forces type jobs, and members can serve with the Tactical Assault Groups (counter terrorist groups made up of SAS and Commandos). They recruit from civilian life.

    - SASR

Often confused as being Australia's only special forces unit. They only recruit internally within in ADF, and require applicants to have completed their training and be ECN compliant.

The best way to get involved is to join a standard Infantry unit first - one of the regular or reserve battalions, then get experience. There's no harm in trying to apply for the direct-entry commando scheme, though with the interviews and constant assessments and observations during your recruit and infantry training, most applicants don't make it to the selection tests.

  4. U've failed up-front. You'll never make it, go and join the reserves.

Spend a couple of years with them or whatever length the tour is then apply for SF consideration. At least then you'll have something to offer, something tangible the SF's instructors can look at / evauluate

Right now U would'nt pass for the girl guides!

  5. it depends on which one u pick. for example, the SASR won't take people off the street, u have to join the army 1st, then u have the oportunity to try out.

but im sure u'll get in if u try hard enough, h**l i want to join the SASR myself (one day, lol).

  6. With all due respect you must be kind of stupid to think you could just say im going to do this it is alot of hard work and like most people will say go in as a Grunt be a Para trooper in 3RAR to give you experience jumping and so on then decide if you want to be in the SF.

  7. Sorry, you have no hope.

  8. Mate they recruit for the Special Forces from all the three Services so you do not have to be a grunt. I do think however you have to join up first in some respect.

The best bet is to visit www.defencejobs.gov.au or contact the nearest Defence Force Recruiting Centre on 13 19 01.

  9. The Australian Special Forces Command works on a merit system.

first of all, you must choose which special forces service youd like to be involved with:

SASR (Special Air Service Regiment)-made of Three 'Sabre' Squadrons, the most prominent, yet secretive Special Forces section of the ADF, most operations are covert, or black ops.

SASR also provides majority of the members of TAG [west]

1st RAR & 4th RAR -i have grouped these two as they play a similar role, yet are two seperate units. 1st is a reserve unit. 4th RAR (cdo) offically, provides Raid style, assault attacks, and is responsible for TAG [east]

after deciding what your aiming for, you can take two paths, both require you to actually join the army first

for SASR: work, work hard, get noticed for merits, be the top of your class in marksmenship, enemy evasion etc.

for 4th (or 1st) RAR (Cdo) you must join the army, but you can apply directly for it, as long as you fit the requirments set by the ADF.

    either way good luck.

  10. no you cant join the SF straight from civillian life anymore,

they used to do a Special Forces Direct Entry Scheme but i just got a call from my recruiter today and because i was in the same position as you (wanting to do SF) i asked him and he said that the ADF has just stoped doing the Direct Entry Scheme, and wont be back into effect until late next year,

he told me that i have to now spend atleast 12 months in regular army before i can apply for SF testing, and it also is a better idea to be in  the army for a while first so u know alot more and have more experience on how everything works.

hope this helps you out, i mite see u in there :P
