Australian team hails Shane Watson innings vs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 at Mirpur
Australian batsman, Mike Hussey, has stated that he and his teammates thoroughly enjoyed the mauling by Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 in the second One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh at Mirpur.
The big all-rounder smashed a world record 15 sixes on his way to a brilliant unbeaten knock of 185 that sank the hosts in no uncertain terms. He made an absolute mockery of the target of 230 runs that was set for the tourists after
the Tigers had made a big comeback to post the score from a seemingly impossible situation of 88/5.
At the lunch interval they had the momentum and looked set to fight yet Watson had other ideas, as he laid into the spin pronged attack of the hosts.
There was a barrage of sixes that made the hosts duck under cover and made Hussey believe that the Tasmanian is a special talent capable of absolutely anything.
He likened the knock to one played by legendary wicket-keeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Barbados.
"It was pretty phenomenal, consistent hitting really", said Hussey. "I was thinking I hadn't seen consistent hitting like that since probably Gilly in the World Cup final in 2007. It was a phenomenal innings, and he's been able to
put together quite a few phenomenal innings really in the last period”.
Hussey added that Watson has also demonstrated the ability of playing a big innings earlier and his knock did not come as a surprise at all to him. He specified the innings against England in the first ODI of the last summer.
Watson singlehandedly took the hosts home that day hitting some big sixes that went deep in the stands of the huge Melbourne cricket field, Hussey thinks that the burly all-rounder has immense strength and can clear any field in the
world with ease.
"The 160-odd against England [in January] was a pretty amazing innings as well at the MCG. So his consistency to do it is pretty amazing, but just the strength and power to be able to consistently clear the boundary. There were quite
a few that I don't even think he got close to the middle of the bat and they still managed to sail 10 rows back, amazing consistency".
Hussey was pleased that Watson or “Watto”, as he is known to his teammates raised the bar with his effort in Mirpur.
He thinks that he can deliver such knocks with more regularity now as he has delivered two in a very short span of time both in this calendar year, which is less than four months old.
Meanwhile, the Aussies are aiming to wrap a three-zero whitewash by winning the third and final match of the series set to be played at Dhaka tomorrow.
The series was aimed to give more exposure to the lowly hosts against the might of the Aussies, yet it seems that they would only have horror stories to recall from the contest especially in the wake of Watson’s onslaught.
The challenge for them is to regroup before the final game and shape it into a contest that would be worthy for the fans, who were left stunned by the brutality that their team was exposed to in the match.
The wicket is expected to offer some spin yet the Bangladeshis know now that they cannot rely on their quartet of spinners. The left-armers were taken to the cleaners by Watson, who kept peppering the mid-wicket region.
One hopes that their coach, Jamie Siddons, and, captain, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990, lift the sagging spirits of the team and ensure that they compete in the game.
