Australian team tops the 2012 UCI Worlds medal table
Although it failed to claim any victories at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships, Team Australia has still managed to top the medal table with the help of its new talent.
Australia has always produced some of the finest cyclists every year and this year it was no different.
Rachel Neylan claimed a silver medal after her tremendous effort at the women’s road race. She was in absolute form to take the overall victory but had no answer of Marianne Vos attack in the final kilometres of the race.
Vos was delighted after registering a well deserved victory in front of the home crowd after finishing second in the five consecutive championships.
"I knew how having the jersey felt from a long time ago, but I almost forgot after 2006," a delighted Vos said afterwards.
"But this year has been very special, after the Olympics I focused really hard on this. I felt good and knew I had to profit from that".
Rohan Dennis and Damien Howson helped the team with one silver and a bronze medal in the Under 23 time trial event.
Caleb Ewan also claimed a silver medal at the UCI Road World Championships 2012 after he finished seconds behind Matej Mohoric of Team Slovenia.
Team Australia managed to grab 3 Silver and one Bronze medal and tops the medal chart with Team Germany holding the second position.
Tony Martin and Judith Arndt helped the team with elite gold medals while Maximilian Schachmann claiming a bronze in the junior men’s category.
