Australian women beat New Zealand to clinch Twenty20 series
It was certainly not a good day for New Zealand cricket as both the men and women cricket teams lost their Twenty20 matches to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and Australia respectively. The New Zealand women team though had a better fight compared to their male counterparts.
Australia won the match by four wickets.
The New Zealand women team won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener and captain Aimee Watkins played well for New Zealand and gave her team a good start. She scored 39 runs off 35 balls before she got out. The star of the Kiwi team was Sara McGlashan.
She scored 48 runs from 38 balls. She would have liked to complete her second Twenty20 fifty but fell two runs short.
Apart from Watkins and McGlashan, Lucy Doolan was the only other player to reach double figures. She scored 15 runs from 20 balls. In their allotted 20 overs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 managed to score 122 runs. They would have scored more but wickets kept falling at
regular intervals, which restricted them to 122.
The Australian women bowled very well and didn’t allow the Kiwi team to get away with a big total. The pick of the bowlers for Australia was Sarah Coyte as she picked up two wickets for 18 runs. She also ran one batswoman out. The other bowler to pick two
wickets for Australia was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shelley-Nitschke-c89961, she gave away 20 runs. Australia started their innings positively. Although the top order players started well, no one was able to capitalise on the starts they got and wickets kept on falling.
At one stage, the team had lost six wickets for 79 runs in the 14th over. Alyssa Healy and Sarah Coyte then paired together to guide their side to a victory. Healy remained unbeaten on 28 and was well supported by Coyte who scored an unbeaten 14. Apart from
these two players, Jess Cameron also scored some important runs. She managed 20 runs in her innings.
