Considering the population of your country, I thought you were quite impressive!! Gold medals won per capita of population, you actually surpassed China and the USA. Do you think you'll do even better in 2012?

  1. I think we did FANTASTIC!!!

There were a couple of people I expected to get a better result than they did but then there were a couple of surprises as well where I didn't expect us to get a medal.  I was very impressed with the number of people that made the final without medalling as well.  I would like to see a statistic on this and if it was higher than in the past as it felt like it.

Yes I think we will do even better in 2012 as there are not really many retiring that medalled and we had quite a few "young guns" medalling.

I don't have one favorite olympic champion but my top 3 would be Emma Snowsill, Matthew Mitcham and Libby Trickett.  I was also extremely impressed with Anna Meares silver medal.

  2. on a medal per population rate we always fare quite well, we, along with the NewZealanders usually beat the super powers (china, Usa and Russia when it was the Soviet Union,) in medal tally. To us it is no big deal, all in a days work, we love our sport and athletics, swimming, etc, it is part of our culture, a very important part of our culture. I was seriously impressed with sprinter Usian Bolt, how fast can he really go! I was also impressed with the Aussie 10 metre diver Mitchum and the Aussie pole vaulter Steve Hooker, to be honest most of the performances by the participants had me impressed. If we picked up a bit in events that the aussies used to be fairly succesful at like say bicycle racing, rowing and maybe get a few more in the swimming events then all may look better for 2012.

  3. I thought we did rather well, winning Gold medals in a wide variety of sports. It will be tough for us to win more medals in London because the poms have concentrated on sports where traditionally we have done well, particularly cycling. The poms won all but one of the gold medals available at the velodrome. China should continue to improve and USA will still win a lot of medals, So all in all, it's hard to imagine us winning more medals in London.

My favourite athlete was the diver Matthew Mitchum. His final dive was absolutely sensational. Had me running around the room cheering !!

  4. I think we did quite well.  Especially the women in the pool.

  6. Why thank you!! :] You are an absolute darling.

Yes, I feel proud. But there were a few very unexpected golds, which I daresay might be due to a bit of luck thrown in. As for 2012, it depends on whether we still have some luck stored in our pot, or if our athletes are going to train harder, or if we are going to spend more money to improve things like what the UK had done.

I really like Libby Trickett because she is a terrific swimmer, has a smile which makes me smile, and SO down to earth and isnt hyped all over the place like Steph Rice.

I'm also taken to Nastia Liukin.

  7. Absolutely magnificent.

No particular favourite - they were all Olympic champions - they have worked very hard just to get to the Olympics!
