My daughter and I, presently reside in the USA, and would love to explore Puerto Rico. Where are the best and safest places to visit. We both love the sand and sea etc, but would really like to get to know the culture and people of Puerto Rico.

We also love to dance! Any suggestions on accomodation, we don't need 5 star hotels, we would rather spend more time exploring the Island, rather than paying for a fancy room..

  1. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy the relaxing mountainside then check out this great mountain retreat.  If offers morning yoga classes and beautiful views of the mountainside.  You can swing from a hammock or chill out in front of the pool..either way your breath will be taken away by the beauty of the mountains.  This place is within driving distance to "Toro *****" forest, Camuy Caverns, Arecibo Observatory or go for a relaxing ride around the Lake Dos Bocas (for free!!!).  The accomodations are simple and the views stupendous.  Let me know if you need more assistance.  I moved from the states to PR two years ago.

  2. Go to San Juan, visit its nearby areas such as Condado, Pier, Old San Juan, and Isla Verde. These areas are crowded with bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants, shopping, hotels, beaches, museums, and a lot of culture. If you want good shopping go to Plaza las Americas Mall is in Hato Rey, about 10min, from San Juan area. Then if you want to explore the rest of the island, there's great things to do. In Camuy is the Underground Cave System Las Cuevas de Camuy. In Arecibo you can visit the Observatory. If you like surfing, go to Rincon, its world renowned, and its a gorgeous town, with magnificent views. Luquillo is has a really nice beach and great places to eat, the same goes for Fajardo. In Fajardo you can take a ferry and go to Culebra island, and stay in Flamenco Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You can go to Ponce in the south, visit the Art Museum,  the downtown, is very colorful and worth a visit. You can also go to Lajas and visit La Parguera, such a great place, rent a boat and explore the channels, and visit the bioluminiscent bay at night, there's one like it in Fajardo as well, and you can swim in it. Go to Cabo Rojo and visit the Lighthouse, breathtaking views, cliffs and an awesome beach right next to the lighthouse called Playa Sucia, and its not so crowded most of the time, but might need a truck to get in, its very rocky and difficult to get to.

  3. There are many places to stay.

The nightlife is very alive and out going almost anywhere you go.

But I suggest staying near city areas in case you get lost.

Going anywhere in the inside of the island(which is very easy to do) could get you lost and all the houses are far from each other.

You could go El Yunque. and visit many springs, rivers, and lakes.

  4. Hello. San Juan is the largest city in Puerto Rico & its also the main tourist area. The tourist areas of San Juan are Isla verde, Condado & old San Juan. These areas are all nice & safe for the most part. However, like in any big city, just take your normal precautions. Isla Verde & Condado have many big hotels & casinos & nice beahces. Old San Juan doesnt have any beaches but has historical sights, nightlife, guest houses, etc. San Juan is expensive, but you can find some lower priced hotels as well. You definitely need to spend time in San Juan to see the sights like el Morro Fort & to dance at night. There are many clubs in the big hotels & smaller bars in Old San Juan. But you also want to get away from San Juan for a little. The best beaches & natural sights are out of the city.

You can rent a car & drive anywhere with in a few hours or less or for popular sights you can get a tour bus from San Juan, but they dont go everywhere. Take trips to see el Yunque rain forest. You can walk the trails or hike & swim in the waterfalls. Also if you want the most amazing beaches, take a day trip to Vieques or Culebra island. They have great snorkeling too. & Vieques has a bioluminescent bay that glows & wild horses. Camu caves are a great to explore also & the Arecibo telescope nearby. Also Ponce in the south is a very nice city to see also. You can go to Seralles Castle, parque de bombas & Guanica dry forest. In the center of the island you will see beautiful mountain views. I also suggest doing something cultural like going to a patron saints festival or a cockfight. & eat the local food it is safe & delicious :) Enjoy!
