Australians makes impressive start at the PGA Championship
The Australian trio of Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and Aaron Baddeley, all made good starts to the year ending major. Scott showed no signs of British Open debacle, as he came up with a solid performance.
All the three Australians shot four-under par 68 in the first round. They are just two shots adrift of the leader, Carl Pettersson. The Swedish number one shot 6-under 66 to lead the PGA Championships after first round at Kiawah Island.
Everyone was surprised by the Scott’s performance in the first round. Many would have believed that he would be still in that frame of mind, where he squandered a four-shot lead going into the last five holes at Royal Lytham.
However, the Australian was in no mood to repeat his Open’s performance, as he was solid throughout the course.
“I think it was a pretty good round of golf, Scott said. I wasn't feeling 100 per cent with it all out there, but I controlled my game nicely, managed it well”.
Adam was very sharp when it came to the approaches and greens, his short game was pretty impressive.
"My short game was sharp when it needed to be, which is going to be important, because it's just a hard golf course and you're not going to hit every green".
For the other two Australians, it was their best ever start in a major event. Ogilvy and Baddeley both had a flawless round at the Ocean Course.
Geoff had started his round on the back nine, it is a tough ask starting straight up from the back nine but he did well, as he opened with a birdie.
On the other hand, Tiger Woods also came up with a decent first round. He shot a three-under 69 at the Ocean Course. Tiger has had a successful 2012, but he is not yet ready to claim it as a successful year until and unless he wins a major.
Tiger is currently chasing the record of the most number of major wins held by Jack Nicklaus, Woods is just four behind but it has been a long time since he has won a major.
