Question:

Australians only - speed limits in school zone during the holidays?

I pass through a school zone every day. The speed limit in it is 40km/h during school hours.

As it is the school holidays right now, and therefore technically not 'school hours', does the limit still apply?

  1. yes it does. you will notice signs that read 'when children present'. that means no matter what day or time it is as long as there are children present, either on the footpath or in direct sight, you have to obey those speed limits.

  2. Yes. And you shouldn't be complaining about it, if you tend to find every single time out of it you'll obviously get a habit, and drive fast through there all the time.

There's a reason, and thats to not endanger little kids lives.

  3. whatever the speed is before school zone is the same speed zone through school zone when its not a holidays but check with your traffic judge

  4. Yes. Rules are rules and they still apply for any situations. So the answer is yes.

  5. The school zone speed limits don't apply on school holidays and weekends.

The 40km/h limit does apply there is are permenant speed limit signs around some school zones.

  6. Yes it still applies, I have heard of people  been booked for this!

  7. i dont think so

the limit's only there to protect the kids and there's no kids there so therefore there should be no 40km/h limit

  8. I have always wondered this myself...

I figure it isn't officially school hours so slowing down isn't going to save any lives... but the signs are still there.

    Hmmmm

I wouldn't go through at 100 clicks but I don't think there's a cop out there policing those areas during school holidays.

To be 100% sure call your local police station and ask them.

  9. I'd check with the local police. Don't know Australian laws but in the US school holidays are NOT considered to be school hours.
