Hello,

my friend and I are from canada.

We graduated this year and are interested in possibly moving/working in australia for a few months.

Months being the very end of april to mid august.

What is the weather like there?

Where is the cheapest place to work?

Are there many lifeguarding opportunities?

  1. Lets get this straight from the start, you can't just turn up in Australia (or just about any other country in the world for that matter) and start work. You need a Work Permit.

In you & your friend's case, there is a specific "young persons' working visa" designed specifically for "young people" to have an extended (13 months or even more) holiday in Australia and to finance this by short-term working while they are here. This work by the way is usually in things such as hospitality industry, clerical office work or light labouring. Life saving is generally voluntary, and the paid positions at swimming pools would probably not be too easy to get as a "backpacker".

Backpacking is a very popular indeed method of visiting Australia and I would highly recommend it to you if you are looking for a bit of travel & fun times and if you fit the criterea.

  2. Theres not many lifeguard opportunities and if you want to be a lifeguard you will need to be living in northern NSW or in QLD as these are the only places which will be warm enough during winter (our winter is canadas summer) to need lifeguards.

It should still be fairly warm during April and after that it will start to become cooler, QLD temperatures normally around 25 degrees (celsuis), the further south you go the colder it will be, Victoria is winter has temperatures of around 10-15 degrees.

  3. it will be winter for most of that time. but unless you live down south where i do, then the weather probably wont be so bad...

  4. april to august is winter here.

there are no lifeguarding jobs, because beaches are cold and no one comes to them so their unpatrolled.

the pools are still open and their are lifeguarded jobs there

but the best jobs are probably in bars, pubs and clubs because there is always an opening and you can earn alot of money. but you do need your rsa, which is responsible service of alcohol.

you can do a three day course that costs about 90 and gives you this certificate along with responsible gaming annd gives you some experience pooring drinks and stuff.

other than that the only other work you could probably get is in retail or serving at resturants.
