The Australian police has warned cricket fans to behave during the fourth Test of the Ashes, or they will have to face heavy fines.
A record crowd is being expected to come and watch the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on the 26th of this month, which may cause some law and order problems.
Keeping this aspect in view, the police have warned the fans to remain in their limits if they want to enjoy the game. Hooligans have been cautioned from throwing or smashing anything in or around the MCG, while too much drinking
has also been prohibited. Anyone found of over drinking will be thrown out of the ground and slapped with a fine.
Acting Superintendent Paul Pottage said, “If you have too much to drink I can guarantee it's going to cost you $478 and you will be locked up, evicted and won't see the rest of the game, You can sing, you can have a drink,
you can make a lot of noise but if you throw objects, if you disrupt the game for other patrons you will be out here and not inside."
Crowd in the MCG has previously been known for some incidents of unsporting behaviour and this year the management plans to display zero tolerance in case of unwanted interference from the spectators. The police have taken special
measures in this regard and have posted squadrons to keep an eye on things happening in and around the ground. However, they have refused to disclose the exact number of law enforcement personnel deputed for the security of the location.
This move by the police has been fully supported by the chief executive of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland, who clarified that the fans should not be frightened by this robust security because it has been put in place to keep
the environment clean and friendly during the five-day match. He said, “We're just wanting to put the message out there today that those who are ruining other people's fun won't be tolerated and the appropriate action will be taken in those situations."
