Australia’s David Gilmour aims to clinch 2012 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta
Australia’s David Gilmour representing Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club is heading to Freshwater Bay in Australia to take part in the 2012 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta. The Aussie is aiming to claim the title that he missed in the last edition.
The regatta is being hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and will be managed by Swan River Sailing from Tuesday, January 31 to Friday, February 3.
Gilmour is looking forward to achieve his objectives for the Regatta. He believes that this time he will try to sail to his best level and make an impact on the fleet. He explained, “I was third two years ago, second last year, I’d like to go one better
this year.”
However, eight other skippers will sail in the regatta for the same goal and Gilmour will have pretty tough competitions during the Youth Championship. The local hero has to pull up his socks to take on challengers who are some of the best sailors of the
sailing world.
The Australian skipper holds a good track record in the Warren Jones Regatta but despite that, Gilmour will have to keep an eye on his opponents because other participants hold higher ranks against him and his world ranking of 49 is comparatively lower than
that of others.
Reece’s impressive form in the last year elevated him in the world rankings from his past rank of 98 to his current place at 28. He showed a succession of consistent results during different regattas in America and Europe. Chapman, on the other hand, is
currently placed on number 38 due to his noticeable performances and a third finish at the Warren Jones Regatta last year.
List of Warren Jones International Youth Regatta 2012 skippers:
1. Jordan Reece, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (AUS) = 28 rank
2. David Chapman, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (AUS) = 38 rank
3. Jay Griffin, Cruising Yacht Club (AUS) = 44 rank
4. David Gilmour, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (AUS) = 49 rank
5. Tim Coltman, Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club (NZL) = 51 rank
6. Tristan Brown, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (AUS) = 197 rank
7. Josh Junior, Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club (NZL) = 252 rank
8. Sam Gilmour, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (AUS) = 1313 rank
9. Noaki Ichino, Japan Yacht Match-Racing Assoc (JPN) N/A
