Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 determined to retain his Test place – Cricket News Update
Australia’s David Warner has claimed that he will work hard to retain his place in the Test side after carrying his bat in the second innings of the Hobart Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 on Monday, December 12, 2011.
The flamboyant batsman was just into his second Test and scored an unbeaten 123 runs with the help of 14 boundaries. He would have liked to be on the winning side after this fabulous performance, but the Kiwi team managed to clinch the game by seven runs
in the end.
However, Warner was still named man-of-the-match for his excellent batting display. He scored runs on a wicket, which had plenty of grass on it and the ball did quite a few tricks throughout the match.
The 25-year-old was delighted on getting a chance to play the longest version of the game and said, “As a kid growing up you want to keep striving 100% to get that baggy green. Now I have got it I am going to try to hold onto it as long as I can and I am
going to keep doing that. Everyone keeps talking about T20 cricket but I have always said I wanted to prove I could play the longer form.”
Despite playing an exceptional innings against New Zealand, Warner admitted that there was still work to be done on his batting technique.
The aggressive opener added, “There were some patches where I played at balls that I don't really need to. I'm still learning. At the end of the day, the next game, whatever it is, I've got to be a bit more cautious and more tight in my defence and hopefully
I can keep playing my natural game.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 cricketer will look to improve his defence a little more, especially against the spinners. If he manages to do that, he can definitely become one of the greatest ever openers produced by the Kangaroos.
Australia’s next series will be against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, the team that started 2011 as number one in the ICC’s Test team rankings.
Warner will be looking to perform against the Men in Blue in the four-match Test series, starting from December 26, on the Boxing Day.
