Australia’s Hockeyroos eyeing options as they miss 2012 FIH Women’s Champions Trophy

The Hockeyroos are looking for alternative options to remain in the practice before the London Olympics as they have not been invited by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in next year’s FIH Women’s Champions Trophy which will be played in Rosario,
Argentina from January 28 to February 5.
The FIH has completed the list of the next year’s Champions Trophy’s participants by selecting Germany and China ahead of Australia as the seventh and the eighth side in the event. The decision is based on the current FIH World rankings according to which
Germany is currently at the third place and China on the fifth while the Hockeyroos are standing on the seventh spot behind the two. The other six teams include the top five finishers in the 2011 FIH Women’s Champions Trophy and the winner of this year’s Champions
Challenge I tournament.
Adam Commens, the coach of the Australian national Women’s hockey team, the Hockeyroos, looked disappointed at the absence of his athletes in the important tournament, the FIH women’s Champions Trophy and stated that they are looking for some other options
to remain in practice before world’s most prestigious event of sports, the Olympic Games, which will be held next year in London, England.
“The experience in playing in these types of major tournaments is something that we need with such a young group so it’s disappointing that we won’t participate in the Champions Trophy however we are now able to look at other opportunities around that time,”
Adam Commens stated his comments about the situation and their next assignments.
He further added to his comments that as they are not participating in the next year’s Champions Trophy so their major focus will be on the 2012 London Olympic Games for which they now have ample time to prepare themselves as there will not be any pressure
on the athletes as it will be during the Champions Trophy to produce better results against some of the world’s quality sides.
