Australia’s Jessica Allen wins ITT junior title in UCI World Championships 2011 - Cycling News
The Australian cyclist Jessica Allen put her country on the top of the leader-board after winning the Junior Women time trial race in UCI World Championships 2011 on Monday, September 19. The race started and finished in Copenhagen.
In the beginning of the race, Elinor Barker (Great Britain) started three places before Allen but she was in runner-up spot with a difference of 2 seconds. Allen showed her abilities and covered the distance of 13.9 kilometres in 19 minutes and 19 seconds.
Mieke Kroger (Germany) was in third place with a difference of 3 seconds and Thalita De Jong finished fourth with the difference of 15 seconds ahead of Rossella Ratto and Georgia Williams.
After winning the stage, Allen said, “I got the time check at halfway that I was the fastest to the turnaround point and that really lifted me I think. The course was so technical I think that maintaining high speed into the corners and through the corners
was essential.”
She further added that the weather condition was decent during the race and the path was not that windy because the surrounding buildings provided protection to the riders. Allen’s trainer told her that she showed good power in the second half of the course
so the Welsh cyclist was stronger against the wind.
Previously, the 22-year-old Allen took fourth place in the British National Road Race Championships and secured runner-up spot in U-23 in 2008. She also grabbed second place in Welsh National Road Championships in 2006.
Allen explained, “I couldn’t really take in the scenery too much doing the time trial but the circuit they’ve chosen here is just awesome. I really liked the course. I did it yesterday and it wasn’t a typical flat course either.”
Jessica will shift up to the Women’s category in the UCI World Championships next year, so she decided to take part in the training camp in November with senior girls to get some much needed practice. However, she was also really excited for the Friday 70
kilometres Junior Women road race.
