Australia’s Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen win 2012 49er World Championship
Australian sailors, Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen gave the best of their sailing skills in the 2012 29er World Championship on the Croatian waters and were able to clinch the championship with some outstanding sailing techniques. The Aussie Pair participated
in 18 races and earn 78 points grabbing some higher podium finishes including two discard races and a medal race.
The mega event began with some thrilling races on the opening day on Croatia waters. The weather conditions over the race course were not favourable for a perfect sail. The breeze was wafting around the racing area from six to eight knots which is comparatively
lower than expected winds in Croatia. However, the forecast was not so troubling to disturb the proceedings in the event.
Aussie team had a superb start of the regatta as they were able to grab an early lead with a couple of upper finishes in the first set of races. During their run in the championship, both Outteridge and Jensen fired three bullets and some second podium finishes
stay on top of the fleet. They retained their overall lead on the fleet until the final day which took them to the top seat.
The proceedings on the final day of the regatta began with a slower breeze as usual gusting around eight knots. The forecast was not good for the participants but still they managed to complete the medal race with some good tactical skills on the race course.
The Aussie sailors finished on 16th podium in the medal race which was enough for them to hit the top spot.
With 91 points in 18 races, the Kiwi team of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke finished on second place after an incredible sailing display. Meanwhile, Danish Olympic sailors, Allan Norregaard and Peter Lang, were able to make it to the third position in the
overall standings with 106 points.

3. DEN 5 – 5, 7, (11), 7, 9, 8, 2, 10, 4, 9, (23), 1, 13, 12, 2, 7, 2, 8 = 106 points
4. FRA 1161 - (12), 6, 3, 2, 1, 10, 6, 3, 10, 8, 7, 10, 4, 2, (BFD), 4, 16, 14 = 106 points
5. DEN 1242 – 2, 4, 12, 4, 8, 1, 7, 2, (18), 5, 6, 18, 18, 5, 11, 9, (19), 4 = 116 points
