Australia’s Neil Robertson admits his match against Peter Ebdon was tough: 2012 China Open
Former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson had a superb start in the 2012 China Open snooker tournament. He started his tournament campaign clinching victories over the Englishman Jamie Cope and the former seven-time World Snooker Champion
from Scotland, Stephen Hendry in the first two rounds respectively to set up quarter-final clash against the former UK Champion, England’s Peter Ebdon.
Before entering the arena, Robertson was expecting a tussling encounter against the former World Snooker Champion because he had played against him several times in his career. The match up began with Ebdon’s tremendous performance but the Aussie played
impressively to keep his side of the scoreboard flashing.
At the end of the first session, the scores were 2-2 as the match was going up to the expectations of the 2012 Masters winner and the spectators who gathered at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena.
The sixth frame finished in Robertson’s favour as he pulled level again 3-3. However, after that the Aussie was not able to continue his form and tumbled down in the next two frames to let Ebdon clear the table and win the game. Robertson believes that his
missed shots were the reason behind his loss. He appreciated the way Ebdon finished the proceedings.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Robertson said, “It was a really tough contest, you always get that with Peter. You can never beat him quickly. But that's mainly my own fault really because every frame I was getting in to score the points first,
but wasn't getting big enough breaks. I missed a red to go 2-0 up, and on another day I could've won in an hour and a half.”
The Thunder from Down Under will now be heading to Sheffield next month where he will take part in the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The Victorian potter is expecting some fireworks from his cue stick in the championship
as he plays against a qualifier.
After the championship, Robertson will be promoting the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) as he has been nominated as ambassador of the event along with Judd Trump.
