Australia’s Neil Robertson reaches top three of 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 3
World Number four cueist, Australia’s Neil Robertson played impressively on the opening day of the 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 3 matches despite being tired after the recently concluded 2012 Masters run at the Alexandra Palace in London.
After reaching the Crondon Park Golf Club in Stock, the new Masters champion showed his class during his first-day campaign of Group 3 contests and successfully made his way into the top three potters in the group with two points after four matches. The
29-year-old now feels confident about making an impact in the Championship League.
The Thunder from Down Under ousted England’s Stephen Hendry 3-1 and Welshman, Matthew Stevens 3-2 in his first day matches while he was defeated by Mark Davis 2-3 and World Number one, England’s Mark Selby 0-3 at the arena. Despite his two defeats, the Australian
managed to clinch the third spot in the group table with two points.
Previously, the Aussie put up an excellent performance at the Alexandra Palace to claim his first ever Masters title after ousting Englishman, Shaun Murphy by the score line of 10-6 in the final match. The former World Snooker Champion defeated the 2011
UK Championship winner, Judd Trump in the semi-final encounter by the score line of 6-3.
The 2012 Masters champion believes that he has proved his class to Trump who accused him for being boring and slow during a match. He still remembers the laugh he gave on Trump’s criticism and said that he might not be as fast on the baize as Trump, Shaun
Murphy or Ronnie O’Sullivan but he is surely not a slow potter.
Speaking to local media about Trump’s criticism, Robertson said, “I can deal with being called slow if I’m picking up the winner’s cheque. You don’t get paid by the hour in snooker. I can’t play quite as quickly as Judd Trump, Ronnie O’Sullivan and even
Shaun, but I’m not slow at all. This makes up for some of what happened in my world title win – you can’t help it when there’s not a fantastic final.”
The Victorian potter has two more matches to play in the Championship League Group 3 against Jamie Cope and Martin Gould. Robertson, turning 30 next month, is hoping to qualify for the play-offs of the tournament so that he can make his way into the Winners
Group of the league this year after topping the group.
